Annual Caritas Events
The Feast of Caring
is Caritas' major annual fundraising event. Held in the spring, it features a community-wide "Soup Cook Off," silent and audible auctions, and an enjoyable evening to help support the work of Caritas.

The Spring Onto Summer Food Drive
a special spring food drive that is designed to obtain food to help pantries feed hungry children during the summer, when they no longer have access to free or reduced-price school meal programs.
Customers of Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, and Brookshire's are encouraged to purchase the requested food items while they are shopping and to place those food items in specially-marked containers before they leave. Needed food items are canned meats, canned vegetables, cereals, baby food, peanut butter, macaroni & cheese, dry beans, rice, corn meal and pasta/sauces. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
This effort is billed as "children feeding children" because of the emphasis on securing food to help feed the many children who are home during the summer and not able to participate in the summer meal programs that are offered by some schools and other non-profit organizations. Typically. food pantries face a daunting task in the summer of meeting the needs for families with children, and the drive helps build supplies of food that will be needed before the next school year starts.
Please plan to support the 2017 "SOS" in an effort to further grow this important food drive.
The Caritas Charity Golf Classic got a new name in 2015. The tournament name for the next 4 years will be the "Greg May Caritas Golf Classic" thanks to the generosity of Mr. Greg May. This is an annual fall "Florida Scramble" tournament hosting four-player teams with proceeds funding Caritas' urgent assistance programs.
Food for Families is an annual project for the Boy Scouts of America, H-E-B Grocery Company, and KWTX-TV. Together with food pantries all across Central Texas, this one-day food drive collects non-perishable food and stocks the shelves of area food banks and pantries beyond the holiday season.
On the Friday before Thanksgiving, volunteers from the Boy Scouts, H-E-B Grocery Company, and other community organizations, collect food in 9 counties. Food for Families is the largest one-day food drive in Texas.
All donated food serves the people in the county in which it was collected. Central Texans have generously donated food and money totaling more than one million pounds each year for the past eight years. In 2016 alone, over 1.8 million pounds of food was collected. In McLennan County alone in 2016, over 498,000 pounds of food was collected.
Be a part of this tradition and help your fellow Central Texans. Please donate non-perishable food products that people need most. Those products are: canned meats, tuna, chili, stew, chicken, canned vegetables, cereals, baby food, peanut butter, dry beans, rice, flour, sugar, corn meal, pastas and sauces.
Stamp Out Hunger
As part of the annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive, McLennan County, Texas, letter carriers will join forces with the National Association of Letter Carriers on a Saturday in May for the largest one-day food drive in the nation. The drive assists millions of families in the United States who are struggling to put food on their tables every day. In the Waco-McLennan County area, letter carriers collected non-perishable food donations to help people served by Caritas of Waco, the Salvation Army and Shepherd's Heart Food Pantry.
Households participated by placing non-perishable food items such as canned vegetables, canned meats, pasta/sauces, rice, cereal, peanut butter, dry beans, macaroni & cheese, baby food, etc., in the paper bag and leaving it next to their mailbox prior to their regular mail delivery time. Letter carriers collected these food donations as they delivered the mail. Donations were taken to the Caritas warehouse for distribution to people in need through Caritas, Salvation Army and Shepherd's Heart food pantries.
